I’ve found a venue in Bowen Hills, East Brisbane and booked it to be available from 9am EST Wed. Nov. 5. Results will begin to trickle in shortly afterwards.
The joint oozes character, is a walk from The Valley and other BrisVegas attractions, and is a short ride from BNE air.
It’s best not to announce final details until I’ve got confimation in writing and this should occur after the Ekka is over, because the manager of our venue is presently up to her armpits in Ekka related activities. Met her personally and have had several phone chats. Can’t envisage any probs, so as soon as I’ve paid for the hire of the venue($300) and got the live TV, cable and Wifi access sorted “on paper” plus a receipt, it’ll be announced.
So book your travel arrangements, folks. Remeber it’s the day after the Melboune Cup, so flights at the last minute will be dearer.
The Ekka finishes on the 17th,(no it’s not at the Ekka grounds) and an announcement of final details of “the gathering” will be made asap aferwards.
Acceptances to date include, jaundiced view, Ferny Grover, Kirri (+ spouse?), jen, Possum, Classified, dogb and partner, Ecky and Minister for War, apols if I’ve forgotton someone. So, come on guys, don’t be shy, this is one occasion where dyed-in-the-wool political junkies will be able to “tell somebody who cares” because the joint will contain nothing but.

I should have offered earlier but my timetable was a bit crowded.
Thanks dogb, got everything sorted exept the hotpoint/wifi details which I’ve been negotiating with venue management since the Ekka finished. Will get an answer this week, or we’ll find another joint as people need to make travel plans. There are only 9 weeks till E-Day.
-Great central location, plenty of parking, ambience up the wazoo, availabily of food and beverige, 4 plasma screens.
We get a hotpoint/wifi hook-up type stuation, we got a deal! No way we can have a gathering of this nature without every attendee with a lap top having web access.
Regret I can’t join you Nov 4 after all as will be in Europe but will be on-line to share excitement including no doubt a toast to Cat for setting up this snazzy site and ofcourse, to share the euphoria when Obama wins
